The Dufferin Jog is no more.
The detour used to stop drivers in their tracks at Queen Street, forcing them to Peel and Gladstone avenues. If you wanted to continue on Dufferin, you had to make four turns.
As of Thursday, that was all replaced by a four-lane underpass. The 70-metre tunnel travels under the railroad tracks.
An amphitheatre, new lights and fencing have also been erected in the area and murals will be installed by spring 2011.
Construction began in July 2009 and cost $40 million.
It will be a boon to those who commute in the west end, especially for those who ride the Dufferin bus. It’s one of the TTC’s busiest routes and often plagued by delays.
