TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto Public Housing is offering compensation to residents who suffered losses and personal hardship, after they were forced from 200 Wellesley Street East following a devastating fire.
The package will offer residents a base amount of $3,300 for a bachelor apartment, and $5,300 for a two bedroom unit, with $450 for each additional occupant.
Tenants can also receive compensation for emotional distress, loss of comfort and convenience, food spoilage and loss of income.
However, in order for them to receive the money, they must agree to refrain from participating in the class action lawsuit.
The fire raged through the apartment building on September 24 and displaced approximately 1,700 people.
