As was largely expected, mayor-elect Rob Ford named former Etobicoke mayor and city councillor Doug Holyday his deputy mayor on Monday, just two days before he’s officially sworn in.
“Councillor Holyday and I have worked very well together over the past 10 years, I have the utmost respect for him and am grateful he has accepted the position of Deputy Mayor,” Ford said.
Holyday will also serve as Chair of the Striking Committee.
Ford also named Coun. Karen Stinz the proposed TTC chair, Coun. Frances Nunziata as recommended council speaker and Scarborough councillor Mike Del Grande as his recommended budget chief.
Other high profile appointments include:
Giorgio Mammoliti – Chair of Community Development and Recreation
Norm Kelly – Chair of Parks and Environment Committee
Peter Milczyn – Chair of Planning and Growth Development
Denzil Minnan-Wong – Chair of Public Works
Cesar Palacio – Chair of Licensing and Standards
Michael Thompson – Chair of Economic Development Committee
“I am proud and honoured to work with such a diverse and talented team,” Ford said.
“We are working as quick as we can, I have a very strong and experienced team here and I look forward to leading the city with them.”
“The message on election day from taxpayers of Toronto was heard loud and clear – they want respect and I want to assure them our team is ready to do the hard work necessary so they see value for their money.“
The mayor-elect will be sworn in on Wednesday.
