TORONTO, Ont. – Welcome to Mayor Rob Ford’s world.
It’s expected to be an acrimonious week at City Hall, as Toronto’s new mayor takes aim at the vehicle-registration fee and how much councillors spend.
Ford’s executive council will talk money this week with plans to cut councillors’ office budgets to $30,000 and the mayor’s budget to $2-million.
He’ll also try to cancel the vehicle-registration tax and will ask the province to declare the TTC an essential service.
Ryerson University political science professor Bryan Evans believes Ford is drawing the battle lines.
“You know, are we looking at the beginning of a four-year civil war on council?,” Evans said.
On Tuesday, Ford will address the new council for the first time as mayor.
