Some York University Exams Cancelled After Fire Knocks Out Heat At Keele Campus

Several York University classes and exams have been cancelled after a three-alarm fire at the Keele campus Monday.

The blaze, which started in the Central Utilities Building, damaged the school’s boilers and generators, leaving most of the campus with no heat.

There were no reported injuries.

Up to 3000 students who live on campus residences have been left in the cold, with many looking for a place to stay overnight until the problem is rectified.

Some complained that school officials haven’t kept them informed.

“I have an exam on Wednesday and they’ve basically postponed everything for the next 48 hours so I don’t even know if that’s still on or not,” said first year student, Robin Noodelman.

School officials say they are doing everything in their power to get the heat back on and communicate with students.

“It is exam week and this does affect our students who we’re concerned about,” said Alex Bilyk, York University spokesperson.   “It also affects students in residence who we’re finding alternative accommodations for tonight and tomorrow and arranging transportation to get them there.”
