Bell Fined For Violating Do Not Call List

It’s a system that was set up to ensure you don’t receive unwanted sales calls and Bell Canada must fork over $1.3 million for violating the rules of the Do Not Call List.
On Monday the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced it has come to a settlement with Bell over its “unauthorized telemarketing practices”.
The CRTC said the company called people who had registered on the National Do Not Call List between January and October of this year in an attempt to sell them television, phone, wireless and Internet service.
“All telemarketers must respect the wishes of Canadians who have registered their telephone number on the National DNCL or requested that a telemarketer include their number on its internal do not call list,” Andrea Rosen, the CRTC’s Chief Telecommunications Enforcement Officer, said in a statement.
“Even though the calls in this instance were made by third parties, Bell Canada must ultimately ensure that the rules are followed.”
The CRTC also discovered that Bell used automated calling devices to communicate with its mobile customers without their consent.
