RCMP test new device to catch drunk drivers

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are testing the next generation of breathalyzers that are set to take effect for 2011.

The new device will be used when suspended drunk drivers are taken back to a police station. Drivers will no longer be tested at the side of the road.

The RCMP are expecting to catch experienced drunk drivers who may not appear to be intoxicated.

The Toronto Star reports the Intoximeter (which is commonly known as a breathalyzer) should be the standard instrument used across Canada within the next year.
