TORONTO, Ont. – It’s as much of a holiday tradition as fruitcake. We’re talking about regifting.
According to one dictionary, the definition of regifting is “to give an unwanted gift to someone else; to give as a gift something one previously received as a gift.” While some do it to be more green, others do it to save cash or time looking for the perfect present.
In a recent poll, 15 per cent of people admitted to regifting.
680News hit the streets to find out about the gift that keeps on giving.
Zoey at Yonge and Bloor streets fired off a list of generic items she’s regifting. “A pair of gloves, sometimes beauty products, lotion or soap, all that sort of thing,” she said.
Leena’s hesitant to admit she passes gifts on. “No, maybe a bottle of wine or something like that,” she said.
She also said she’s also spotted a regift before.
“I think it was a candle holder, one of my friends got it from somebody and that person gave it to me,” Leena said. And then, she passed the candle on to someone else.
But Patrick insisted that’s impersonal. “It takes the specialness out of it,” he said.
