Police Call For End To Drunk Driving After Fatal Brampton Crash

Police and other advocates are calling for an end to drunk driving after a fatal Brampton crash.

A mother of two is dead and her husband is in stable condition in hospital following the Wednesday collision.

But officials are concerned their message is falling on deaf ears.

During R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot checks, police said that while fewer people have been stopped compared to last year, the number of drivers who’ve been given a temporary suspension is up. In this year’s patrol, 150 received a suspension. Last year, it was 129. And 53 people have also been charged with impaired driving.

An 18-year-old man is facing a slew of charges, including impaired driving causing death, following the two-car crash. He was behind the wheel of a Ford Focus when it collided with a Honda Civic just before 5am at Central Park Drive and Bramalea Road.

A passenger from his car, an 18-year-old woman, is also in hospital.

The woman and her husband were delivering newspapers.

Brian Turner, 18, has been charged with impaired driving causing death; dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death; two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm; two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing harm and taking a vehicle without consent.
