Electrical Worker Killed In TTC Bus Crash

A man has died and another is in hospital following a crash involving a TTC bus.

Two men under contract with Stacey Electric were near Bathurst and Dupont streets around 8:30pm on December 23. Their truck was parked in the curb lane as the pair completed repairs to street lights.

Toronto Police say the bus was in the passing lane when it struck the truck, which had its cherry picker arm positioned above the road.

A 42-year-old man was standing on the ground. He was hit by the transit vehicle and killed.

A second man, 51, was thrown from the cherry picker. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“We have one person who has succumbed to their injuries as a result of this unfortunate accident,” confirmed Insp. Ruben Stroble.

Toronto has seen a string of transit-related crashes recently. Last Thursday, a Greyhound bus hit a streetcar sending 17 people to hospital, including four children. In the following two days, two vehicles were hit by streetcars in separate incidents.
