TORONTO – The provincially appointed supervisor at Windsor’s Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital makes it clear he is in charge.
Ken Deane says he has the full powers of the board and C-E-O. Warren Chant will report to him.
Deane reports directly to Health Minister Deb Matthews.
He anticipates it will take at least a year to sort out hospital’s problems.
A report into pathology errors came after two women came forward saying they had their breasts removed at Hotel-Dieu after they were misdiagnosed with cancer.
It also found that “unproductive relationships” between doctors, senior management and the board of directors existed for more than 10 years.
The hospital’s longtime chairman was dismissed last month.
Deane was chief operating officer at London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care, but was also Hotel-Dieu’s C-E-O from 2002 to 2004.
