UFC eyes June 11 for Vancouver event

It appears the UFC will make its second trip to Vancouver the same weekend in June as last year.

Sportsnet first reported a proposed date back in October and MMAjunkie.com reported Monday that the organization is targeting June 11 for the second UFC event in Canada of 2011. While no matchups have been rumoured, the website also reported that Shane Carwin could be “featured prominently.”

The event, which will be titled UFC 131, will be held at the same venue as last year’s UFC 115 on June 12, Rogers Arena (formerly named GM Place).

MMAjunkie.com also said UFC 130 is expected to be held at MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 28.

UFC 129, the promotion’s first in Ontario, has already been officially announced for April 30 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

NOTES: According to MMAjunkie.com, new WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will not wait to face the winner of a rematch between UFC 155-pound title-holder Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard. Pettis, who was promised the next title shot before Edgar and Maynard fought to a draw on Jan. 1, wants to instead keep busy and hopes to fight in May or June.
