The Canadian Testicular Cancer Association is halfway through its month-long “MANuary” campaign.
TCTCA hopes men in Toronto will take part in their fundraising events such as the MANsake Ball Cocktail Party, and MANicure – an event where men get their chests waxed to raise awareness
Peter Laneas, the national spokesperson, is a two time testicular cancer survivor.
“I was first diagnosed at 26, the second time at 29. I’ve had every therapy you can have done. I mean I lied to people when I was going through chemotherapy. I said I was going through this crazy masculine phase and I felt the need to shave my head,” he said.
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer for young men between 15 – 29.
Ontario has seen a nearly 60 per cent rise in the incidence of testicular cancer over the last 30 years, with the most notable increase among teens and young adult men.
