Police crack multi-million dollar opium ring

Refrigerators and cans of pickled cucumbers.

Suspects in an opium-trafficking ring had some very creative ways of getting their product into the GTA from Iran. They also hid drugs in cherry syrup bottles, bath towels and bolts. Officers charged nine people with numerous drug-related offences.

Police in Toronto, Peel, York and the Canadian Border Agency took part in the probe, which was dubbed “Project Khiar.” (Khiar is the Farsi word for “cucumber.”)

The officers seized drugs, Canadian currency and four luxury vehicles.

Police are looking for three more suspects.
