Silva: Fight against GSP is up to UFC

LAS VEGAS — Middleweight champion Anderson Silva says he will follow the UFC’s lead when it comes to a super-fight with welterweight title-holder Georges St-Pierre.

UFC president Dana White said Wednesday he thought the time is right for such a showdown, providing the two champions win their next fights.

Silva defends his 185-pound title against fellow Brazilian Vitor Belfort at UFC 126 on Saturday night while Montreal’s St-Pierre puts his 170-pound championship on the line April 30 at UFC 129 in Toronto.

“I’m an employee of the UFC,” the 35-year-old Silva, speaking through manager Ed Soares, told reporters Thursday. “I’ve never picked my opponents and I won’t start now.

“If the UFC feels that I should fight him, then great. I’m here to fight against the best. Georges is a great fighter, I respect him a lot but we’ll see what the UFC decides.”
