VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – With a slow economy and leadership races overshadowing everything, the legislature sat Monday for the first time in months. The speech from throne, however, did not contain any major goodies for taxpayers.
Finance Minister Colin Hansen has already said not to expect any surprises in the budget that comes out Tuesday.
Monday’s throne speech, delivered by Lt. Governor Stephen Point, didn’t make any promises. “This is a time when British Columbians are encouraged to discuss new ideas in how to make our province an even better place,” Point read.
The speech did look back – at the Olympics Games, and at past tax cuts. And it touted the upcoming 100th anniversary of BC’s parks system.
News1130 reporter Dan Burritt will be attending the Tuesday’s budget in Victoria.
