Heavy precipitation linked to global warming, according to study

Extreme rainstorms and snowfalls have grown substantially worse, according to two studies in the journal Nature Link.

The studies were able to connect weather events like extreme rain to increases in greenhouse gases.

One study found that the strongest precipitation events were seven per cent wetter in the 1990’s than they were in the 1950’s.

The other looked at costly flooding in England and Wales in the fall of 2000, and found that global warming more than doubled the likelihood of that flood occurring.

Both studies used computer modeling.

Myles Allen of the University of Oxford, who co-authored the British research, said it showed global warming isn’t a victimless problem.
