Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi took five wickets to dash Canada’s hopes in a 46-run World Cup victory on Thursday.
Canada’s fast bowlers used the overcast conditions to perfection when they dismissed Pakistan for 184 in 43 overs before the North Americans fell to Afridi’s medium pace-like legspinners and were shot out for 138 in the Group A match.
Jimmy Hansara (43) had provided Canada a chance of a shock victory and shared a 60-run fourth wicket stand with Zubin Surkari (27).
But Afridi — wanting to make amends for his surprise decision to bat first — rattled the middle-order with four wickets off 17 balls and also a ran out Balaji Rao.
Pakistan has six points from three games, and Canada three losses.
