CUPERTINO, Calif. – Apple is planning to give back $100 to shoppers who bought a first-generation iPad at one of its retail stores or through its online store during the past two weeks.
The reason for the refund comes from the release of Apple’s new version of the tablet computer, the iPad 2, on Wednesday.
At the same time, the company slashed the price for the older iPad model by $100.
The refund policy is standard for Apple when the company permanently reduces the price for one of its products.
Apple Inc. says retail customers will need to present the original purchase receipt and request a refund within 14 days of the price reduction, while online shoppers should call Apple customer service.
People who want to return their first-generation iPads can do so within 14 days of purchase.
