Child dies in Ancaster crash

An 11-year-old girl is dead, four others are in hospital following a devastating single-car rollover in Ancaster late Friday night.

Hamilton police say the a truck, driven by the child’s step-father, was travelling along Jerseyville Road West, west of Hwy 52 around 11:30pm. The truck rolled into a ditch, struck a tree and came to rest at the side of the road.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other adults were taken to an area hospital, with a female friend in critical but stable condition.

The driver, 54, has been arrested and is facing charges of impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm.

There’s no word on the identity of the deceased.
