Several school bus cancellations Thurs., rain to continue across southern Ont.

Waking up to awful weather likely wasn’t a great start to the day for adults, but it was wonderful for thousands of kids across the province.

Several schools, mostly in eastern Ontario, cancelled school buses Thursday morning due to freezing rain and snowy weather. In most cases schools remained open despite the bus cancellations.

Cancellations were issued in areas including Dufferin County, Bancroft, Peterborough, Northumberland County and parts of Muskoka.

A low-pressure system from that originated in Texas is responsible for the snow-rain mix across the province.

The rain is forecast to continue through the day in Toronto and through to the end of the week. The prolonged wet weather prompted authorities to issue high water level warnings, urging parents and caregivers to ensure kids don’t play near any body of water.

Southern Ontario is expected to get about 20 millimetres of rain by Friday.
