The province’s Special Investigations Unit is probing the case of a Burlington driver police allegedly shot and killed Saturday night.
Around 7:30 p.m., police say, a Halton officer signalled the 34-year-old to pull over on Walkers Line, north of Mainway Drive, after a number of people called about the man’s erratic driving.
During the traffic stop, the officer reportedly shot the driver. The injured man was then taken to a local hospital by ambulance and pronounced dead just before 10 p.m.
The SIU is waiting for an autopsy to be performed and planned to notify next-of-kin before it released the man’s name.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency which investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
