Canucks’ Malhotra out for season, playoffs

THE CANADIAN PRESS

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks have lost veteran centre Manny Malhotra for the rest of the season with a serious eye injury.

The team released a statement Monday saying he would not be eligible to return for the regular season or playoffs.

Malhotra was injured last Wednesday against Colorado when a pass deflected off the stick of Colorado defenceman Erik Johnson into his eye.

He does not wear a visor.

The 30-year-old needed surgery that night and questions remain about the long-term quality of his vision.

Malhotra had 11 goals and 30 points in 72 games for the Canucks this season. He was also the league’s second best on faceoffs with a win percentage of 61.7.
