Silva admits he tried to cheat MMA drug test

Brazilian light-heavyweight Thiago Silva has admitted to doping and tampering with his urine at a UFC 125 drug test.

In a statement, Silva says: “I used a urine adulterant when giving a sample following my fight with Brandon Vera.”

He calls it a “terrible decision on my part for which I will be punished.”

The mixed martial arts fighter says he did it because he injured his back in advance of the Jan. 1 bout.

So he was injected with a prohibited substance and then used a product to try to conceal it in a urine test.

Silva won the fight, which could be turned into a no contest.

He faces losing his licence to fight, a suspension and/or fine from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
