TORONTO, On. – A Ryerson University campus radio station is encouraging supporters to sign a petition or write to Members of Parliament after its license revocation appeal was turned down, Friday.
The verdict comes almost three months after Canada’s broadcast regulator pulled the plug on the campus station, following complaints about governance, operations and management.
In a statement on the station’s website, CKLN said they are able to broadcast online and to the surrounding community, including Ryerson University:
“While the station will lose its broadcasting privileges on the 88.1FM signal, station management plans to continue as broadcasters for the Ryerson campus and the surrounding community […] It is not in contravention of the Broadcasting Act to broadcast via the Internet.”
CKLN is Toronto’s oldest campus-based community radio station, with 28 years under its belt.
A public statement is expected for Monday.
