Lions running back Yonus Davis jailed in California

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC Lions running back Yonus Davis has been detained by the Drug Enforcement Administration in northern California. Reports say Davis was caught with approximately 27 kilograms of ecstasy tablets.

If Davis is convicted, he could face a maximum of 20 years in prison. There could also be a fine. Davis will go to court in San Jose and will face a count of possessing a controlled substance with intent to distribute, according to the Vancouver Sun newspaper. The incident took place earlier this month.

Lions GM  and head coach Wally Buono issued the following statement: “We are aware of an incident that involves Yonus and we will continue to gather additional information. He remains part of our football club while the investigation process takes its course and we will not comment further at this time.”

The 26-year-old kick returner/running back was the CFL West Division’s top special teams player in his rookie season with the Lions last season.
