Rumor has it that LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian may be walking down the aisle this weekend. And, while the country singer hasn’t been forthcoming with details on her nuptials, she has been candid about the rough road that lead her to where she is today.
In Backstory: LeAnn Rimes, new documentary for the Great American Country channel, the superstar opens up about her affair with Cibrian and the demise of her marriage to Dean Sheremet.
“I know I didn’t do it the right way,” Rimes said, of the public reveal of their infidelity. She admits that she just didn’t have the strength or the knowledge to handle the situation properly at the time. “It got really messy, but I have learned a lot from that and I’m not glad it happened, but I know why it did.”
Soon after the news broke that Rimes and Cibrian were cheating on their spouses (Cibrian was married to Brandi Glanville, who he has two children with), both couples split. The public then crucified Rimes and Cibrian, leaving the singer distraught.
“I think i felt really abandoned—abandoned is a good word—because of our divorce,” she said. “Our divorce became much bigger, because it was publicized. But, she says, she’s learned that she has to just go on with her life and not take the backlash to heart. “I can’t fight this public scrutiny,” she said. “What happened is not who I am. It’s not me at all.”
Now, as Rimes and Cibrian prepare to start their new life together as husband and wife, the singer says time really does heal all wounds.
“It changes. Time changes things,” she says in the documentary. “The imperfections have been what’s made my life story interesting and so real and it’s made me human.”
