Arrest made in Parkdale assaults

Toronto Police have arrested a man in connection with a string of assaults in Parkdale.

Officers say the suspect appears to target vulnerable people who live near Leopold Street, including those with mental illnesses.

Ricardo Morrison, 32, has been charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm, both of which allegedly occurred in April. Officers say he remains a person of interest in other cases in the area, including the death of George Wass.

Wass, 62, collapsed and died just days after being released from hospital following an assault on March 18.

The string of unprovoked assaults began on January 4 when a 47-year-old woman was attacked while walking near Queen Street and Jameson Avenue. Police are investigating six separate assaults in the area as well as Wass’s murder.

Police say Morrison lived in the same rooming house as some of the victims.
