De Ro sends supportive tweet to Attakora

Toronto native Dwayne De Rosario feels Nana Attakora’s pain.

On Friday, De Rosario sent his former Toronto FC teammate a supportive tweet, stating “The drama continues. Nana keep your head up!”

Attakora, a defender with the Major League Soccer club, hasn’t played for Toronto FC since mid-April and didn’t fly with the team for its match Wednesday night against FC Dallas.

Marcos Serioux, Attakora’s agent, told a Toronto television station Wednesday he believed his client was being punished because of his unwillingness to agree to a contract extension with the team.

De Rosario is all too familiar with that situation.

Toronto FC dealt the 32-year-old midfielder, who was the club’s captain and all-time leading scorer, to the New York Red Bulls after De Rosario, a four-time MLS Cup champion, publicly demanded a new contract that would give him a raise from the US$443,750 he earned last year.
