TCDSB school bus driver strike averted: Board

Nearly a thousand students – and their parents – can breather easier now that a group of drivers with the Toronto Catholic District School Board will not be hitting the picket lines.

A strike scheduled for Wednesday has been averted, the Board said on its website on Tuesday evening.

Negotiations are continuing, and a ratification vote is expected later this week.

The TCDSB said in a statement Tuesday that Canadian Auto Workers Union Local 4268 employees didn’t ratify the tentative agreement that was reached with First Student Canada.

First Student Canada provides bus service for the TCDSB, the Toronto District School Board and the Toronto French School Board.

If bus drivers do strike, the TCDSB says 940 students and 289 buses will be affected.

Parents with concerns are asked to visit the TCDSB’s website or call the 24-hour information line at 416-222-8282 ext. 2873.

CAW Local 4268 has been in negotiations with First Student Canada since September. Pay is said to be a major sticking point of the talks.
