Ontario PCs to release “Changebook” election plan Sunday

TORONTO, Ont. – More than 1,500 party faithful have gathered in Toronto for the Ontario Progressive Conservative convention this weekend, with the buzz phrase for the key PC event being change ahead.

While he wouldn’t give away too many details, Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak did confirm that his party will release their platform for the upcoming fall election on Sunday.

Dubbed the “Changebook” plan, the PCs are hoping their message of changing times and new leadership will help them unseat the incumbent Liberals, who have been in control of the province since 2003.

“As you look around in this room, you see a government in waiting, a government that will deliver needed change to our province,” Hudak told party members at the convention. “I’m proud to say that we have 95 candidates to date, and we’ll have a full slate of candidates in June.”

The upcoming election platform will focus on giving families and seniors in the province relief, as well as on ending waste in the government, according to the PC leader. In an address to party members at the convention, Hudak said the platform represents the people of Ontario,

“This weekend my friends, we take the next step with the release of Changebook,” Hudak said. “Changebook is the first plan to come directly with conversations with everyday Ontario families.”

The platform reportedly includes a promise to create a registry for marijuana grow-ops and meth labs, to protect future homeowners from unknowingly buying a home that used to be used for such a purpose.

Also included is an extension of the provincial gas tax that spreads revenues to all municipalities in the province.

The convention runs from May 27 to May 29 at the Toronto Congress Centre, and the provincial election is on Oct. 6.
