Harper all smiles as he greets his new caucus

OTTAWA – Conservative MP’s gave a smiling Prime Minister Stephen Harper a standing ovation as he walked into the first post-election caucus meeting.

Harper said he was proud to have the new members of his caucus on board in his majority government.

“These outstanding Canadians now joining our ranks helped us win our third mandate, our strongest mandate, a majority mandate for Canada.”

There were whoops of glee when Harper presented the MP, Bernard Trottier, who had beaten Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff in his own Toronto riding.

The Prime Minister’s key message was about the hard work ahead and said the caucus has to continue to put in the effort to earn the trust of all Canadians.

Harper also took the chance to wish his rookie MP’s good luck.

“I remember my first day and I think that the experience was not unusual. The room seemed inspiring and humbling at the same time.”

The PM said that his government represents people from all backgrounds and regions across Canada.

“Conservative values are Canadian values and the Conservative party is Canada’s party.”

Harper also joked that he would never get tired of one word – majority.

Parliament resumes on Thursday where they are expected to elect a Speaker of the House. The speech from the throne will take place on Friday.
