Flames take winger Baertschi with 13th pick

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Calgary Flames selected left-winger Sven Baertschi with the 13th pick in the NHL draft.
The Swiss-born Baertschi was the Western Hockey League rookie of the year last season. He led all first-year players with 34 goals and 51 assists in 66 games for the Portland Winterhawks.
The five-foot-10, 181-pound Baertschi also ranked first among WHL rookies in playoff scoring and was tied for second overall with 27 points (10-17) in 21 games.
Baertschi had a goal and an assist for Switzerland at the 2011 world junior hockey championship.
Calgary missed the playoffs last season, finishing 10th in the Western Conference with a 41-29-12 record.
