Google to re-brand Blogger, Picasa: report

Google is planning to rename two of its most popular services ahead of its public launch of Google+, according to social-media blog Mashable.

Citing Google sources, the website reported that the Internet giant intends to re-brand Picasa and Blogger to Google Photos and Google Blogs. Other Google services are expected to face a name change, but YouTube will remain unaffected, the site said.

“The move is part of a larger effort to unify its brand for the public launch of Google+, the search giant’s social initiative,” Mashable said.

The rebrand is expected to occur in the next four to six weeks.

Blogger — co-founded by Evan Williams of Twitter — and Picasa, were purchased by Google in 2003 and 2004, respectively. Blogger currently sits in the top 10 most viewed websites in the world.
