TTC launches bus schedule web & text service for riders

The Toronto Transit Commission has rolled out a new service that delivers real-time transit information for bus riders via the web or cell phone.
NextBus.com Inc. debuted Monday and provides real-time bus arrival times for passengers either on the web or by text message. Information is available for more than 9,300 TTC bus stops inside Toronto and more than 800 TTC bus stops in the Greater Toronto Area served by contracted TTC vehicles, the commission said.
The service, which uses GPS tracking satellites to provide accurate vehicle arrival and departure information, is similar to another one, Rocket Radar, which provides information for streetcar riders.
The information for bus riders will also now be available on mobile cellphone apps, including Rocket Radar and Next TTC.
