Veggie burgers recalled over possible salmonella contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning consumers about a brand of veggie burgers that could contain salmonella.

Sol Cuisine Spicy Bean Burgers are being pulled off the shelves. The recalled product is sold in a 364 gram frozen package with the UPC 6 28025 01929 8 and lot code 06711.

The burgers were sold across the country.

There have been no reports of illness associated with the recall, the CFIA says. Sol Cuisine is a Mississauga-based company.

Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. The bacteria can cause serious illness in children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis causes symptoms such as fever, headache, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Click here for more information.
