Former Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen is planning a return to television in Anger Management, a new sitcom based on the 2003 film of the same name.
“I chose Anger Management because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept,” Sheen said in a statement released Monday. “It also provides me with real ownership in the series, a certain amount of creative control.”
In the film, Adam Sandler plays a mild-mannered man ordered to attend anger-management sessions led by a therapist (Jack Nicholson) who needs therapy himself.
The new series will be produced by Lionsgate Television and distributed by subsidiary Debmar-Mercury.
In its announcement Monday, the company did not release any details about a network, co-stars, or when production would start. It said Sheen would retain a “significant ownership stake” in the series.
Warner Bros. fired the actor from Two and a Half Men in March amid his bizarre behaviour and a fight with the show’s producers. Days later, Sheen revealed he would be touring a one-man show, My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not An Option, which kicked off on April 2 and sold out in 18 minutes.
