Mayor Ford won’t be charged for talking on cell phone while driving: police

TORONTO, Ont. – Police said they will not charge Toronto Mayor Rob Ford with talking on his cell phone while driving.

The mayor’s aide said Ford has admitted he was on the phone while driving in the city’s downtown Friday night.

A Toronto woman is accusing the mayor of giving her the finger after she asked him to hang up.

The mayor denies making any rude gestures and said there is a misunderstanding.

Toronto police spokesman Mark Pugash said police don’t retroactively pursue charges for cellphone driving because it eats up resources.

Pugash said no charges have been pursued against other motorists who admitted after-the-fact to driving while talking on the phone, and they are giving equal treatment to the mayor.
