Councillors’ office expenses for 1st half of 2011 disclosed

The City of Toronto has disclosed councillors’ office expense for the first half of 2011, and leading the pack are Coun. Ron Moeser at $19,065.13 and Coun. Joe Mihevc at $16,449.42.

Each councillor is allowed $30,000 to pay for office expenses in 2011, down from last year’s limit of $50,445. The limit doesn’t include the staff budget of $211,447.60 that each councillor is allowed in 2011.

Office expenses include office equipment and supplies, transportation, printing and postage, telecom services, office rent, advertising and promotion, travel and other expenses.

The five councillors who have spent more than $10,000 in the first six months of this year include Glenn De Baeremaeker ($ 14,426.43), David Shiner ($ 12,310.47), Ana Bailão ($ 12,291), Kristyn Wong-Tam, Kristyn ($12,253.63) and Frank Di Giorgio ($11,500.53).

Doug Ford, the mayor’s brother, spent nothing to date.

The five councillors who have spent the least amount so far include Douglas Holyday ($785.97), Adam Vaughan ($1,067.39), Gloria Lindsay Luby ($1,695.22), Jaye Robinson $1,696.30 and Frances Nunziata ($2,255.45)

The mayor’s office spent $7,433.42 for office expenses. Nearly 50 per cent of the amount was for the monthly use of BlackBerry smartphones, which totalled $3,588.12.

The mayor’s office was approved by council to have an overall annual budget of $2,011,056.95 in 2011, which includes the staffing budget.
