Arrest made in connection with woman’s death on QEW; victim identified

TORONTO, Ont. – Police have arrested one man in Oakville in connection with the death of a woman killed Saturday on the Niagara-bound QEW.

OPP say the victim has been identified as 32-year-old Amber Lynn Wilkinson of Hamilton.

Wilkinson died after being run over by the vehicle in which she was a passenger. Police say the vehicle pulled over and at some point she exited the vehicle and was for unknown reasons run over by the vehicle as it sped off.

32-year-old Billy Gladysz of Oakville has been charged with second-degree murder.

The investigation closed the QEW for almost eight hours Saturday, forcing those headed to the Niagara area or the border crossing onto local roads in Burlington and Hamilton.

The Niagara-bound lanes of the QEW at the Burlington Skyway were also closed again for a short time on Sunday morning as police continued to scour the area where the woman was found.

The OPP is asking anyone with information or anyone who might have witnessed the incident to continue to contact Detective Constable Janet Scholes at 1-888-310-1122.
