Severe storms blowing through Ontario

TORONTO, Ont. (NEWS1130) – The tornado warning has ended for London – Middlesex – Oxford – Brant – Burlington – Oakville – Mississauga – Brampton.
Tornado warnings are also in effect for Rodney, Shedden, Western Elgin County, St. Thomas, Aylmer and Eastern Elgin County.
A severe thunderstorm warning and tornado watch continues for the city of Toronto.
A tornado watch has also been issued for Windsor – Essex – Chatham-Kent – Sarnia – Lambton – Elgin – London – Middlesex – Simcoe – Delhi – Norfolk – Dunnville – Caledonia – Haldimand – Oxford – Brant – Niagara – Halton – Peel – York – Durham – Quinte – Northumberland – Peterborough – Kawartha Lakes – Bancroft – Bon Echo Park – Parry Sound – Muskoka – Haliburton – Renfrew – Pembroke – Barry’s Bay – Algonquin.
Severe thunderstorm warnings have also been issued for Belleville – Quinte – Northumberland – Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County – Apsley – Woodview – Northern Peterborough County – Chatham-Kent – Rondeau Park – York – Durham – Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes – Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes – Parry Sound – Muskoka – Haliburton – Renfrew – Pembroke – Barry’s Bay – Algonquin.
Environment Canada says a line of thunderstorms is expected to develop over Lake Huron then track rapidly eastward across Southern Ontario late this afternoon and this evening.
Large hail, damaging winds, and torrential downpours may also occur in some areas.
680News listeners have been calling in to report thunder and lightning all around the GTA. One caller driving on Highway 9 between Highway 50 and Highway 27 said he had to pull over because of the intense weather.
“The lighting… I mean… it doesn’t stop. It’s not stopping up here. It’s psychotic! I’ve got five people pulled over in front of me and another two behind me,” he told 680News.
A high water safety bulletin has also been issued by Toronto and Region Conservation due to rainfall amounts of 30-50mm predicted by Environment Canada.
General Manager of the CNE David Bednar told 680News the CNE has closed the gates to new arrivals and shut down the midway due to weather. The buildings remain open for the safety of those still inside the park. Bednar said the Spinners concert that was scheduled to take place on Exhibition grounds has also been cancelled.
Some areas outside of the GTA have reported power outages.
