Police search continues after human skull found in Whitchurch-Stouffville

York Regional Police resumed a search in Whitchurch-Stouffville on Tuesday after human remains were found over the weekend.

A passerby spotted a skull near Warden Avenue and St. John’s Sideroad late Saturday morning. A police command post has been set up in the area as officers continue the search for more evidence.

“They’ll be searching for clues in the area, hoping to find any other information that might help investigators to determine what the cause of death was,” said P.C. Blair McQuillan.

Police haven’t said if the remains are that of a woman or a man and there’s no word yet on when a post mortem exam will happen. The skull was taken to the Centre for Forensic Sciences in Toronto to determine the age and gender of the person.

Investigators say it’s still too early to determine whether the death is suspicious.

Warden, between St. John’s and Aurora Road, will be closed until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-866-287-5025, ext. 7865 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
