The Toronto Blue Jays made a late pitching change on Friday ahead of their series opener against the New York Yankees.
Right-hander Dustin McGowan will start instead of lefty Brett Cecil, who has been listed as day to day after sustaining a cut on his left index finger while cleaning out a blender.
McGowan will pitch against Yankees ace CC Sabathia (19-8).
It will be McGowan’s third appearance this season and second start. He’s currently 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA in his return to Toronto after not pitching in the majors since July 2008 due to two shoulder surgeries and a long minor-league rehab.
Cecil (4-9) has a 4.37 ERA in 18 starts with Toronto.
