SIU probes police after Tasered man falls over balcony

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a Toronto man was stunned by police with a Taser gun early Monday morning.

Officers were called to an apartment in the Weston and Lawrence area, where they were told a suspect was hiding after an alleged domestic incident.

Police found the suspect at an apartment at 1765 Weston Rd around 1 a.m. Witnesses claim he may have crawled down to a third-floor balcony from the 10th floor. The suspect remained on the spot for another few hours, talking with police negotiators.

Officers then made it up to the third-floor apartment and used a “conducted energy weapon.” Daniel Wright, 42, then fell over the rail.

He was rushed to Sunnybrook hospital in serious condition.

Six investigators and two forensic investigators from the SIU are investigating this incident.

The SIU, which probes incidents of alleged sexual assault, serious injury or death involving police, said it has designated two subject officers and five witness officers.

Anyone who may have information regarding this case is asked to contact the Unit at 416-622-0748 or 1-800-787-8529 extension 1898.
