TORONTO, Ont. – Faced with a revolt over their attempt to seize control of the Port Lands from Waterfront Toronto, Mayor Rob Ford and his brother councillor Doug Ford are changing tactics.
Although city council voted to keep Waterfront Toronto as the lead agency in developing the Port Lands, Mayor Ford said it does not mean he had to back down from his vision.
Ford is taking a more positive view of the events.
“Obviously I built a consensus, we are winning votes, we are moving out agenda forward and that’s exactly what we’re doing in this process too so it’s a win-win for Toronto,” he told 680News.
Ford insists he is not backing down on his vision or reacting to those who criticizes his plans.
“I don’t listen to the critics I listen to the tax payers. The tax payers have spoken and I’ve listened,” he said.
Monorails and Ferris wheels are out but the time line for work is being sped up.
“We’re going to accelerate the process and we’re going to get a report back in six months. Things are happening,” said Ford.
The original plans for the Port Lands was to begin work in 20-25 years but Mayor Ford said he wants construction to begin in 5-10 years.
