Amazon to unveil tablet device this week

Amazon is expected to unveil its tablet device this week, challenging Apple’s iPad.

Analysts predict it will sell for about $250, about half the price of a basic iPad.

Amazon introduced the flat-screen Kindle e-reader to United States customers in 2007. The Kindle is primarily used for reading books and newspapers.

The website TechCrunch reported the new device will also be called Kindle. Unlike the e-reader, which displays text in black and white, the tablet will be in full colour. The blog also reported it will have a seven-inch touch screen and will run Android.

Amazon will be holding a press conference in New York on Wednesday, but didn’t say what the conference would be about.
