Doughty agrees to 8-year, $56M deal with Kings

The Los Angeles Kings and Drew Doughty have come to terms.

The defenceman has agreed to an eight-year contract with the club, according to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos.

The deal is worth $56 million.

Doughty, who was the Kings first pick (second overall) in the 2008 draft, has 126 points in 239 games with the club.

A restricted free agent, Doughty missed all five of Los Angeles’ pre-season games as negotiations dragged on.

A former Norris Trophy finalist, Doughty won a gold medal with Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics and represented the Kings at the 2009 NHL YoungStars event in Montreal.

He was selected to the NHL’s All-Rookie Team at the conclusion of the 2008-09 season and was named a second team all-star for the 2009-10 season.
