TORONTO, Ont. – A memorial service was held Thursday night in the city’s northwest end on the one year anniversary of the death of two young Toronto men
18-year-old Courthney Facey and 23-year-old Mike James were killed September 29, 2010 after both suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Facey and James were found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on Weston Road, south of Lawrence Avenue, the night of Sept. 29, 2010.
Facey was pronounced dead at the scene, while James died later in hospital.
Mike James’ mother attended the memorial and told CityNews the pain of losing her son will never go away.
“If the people who know what’s going on just come forward and talk. He was somebody’s kid. He was my son, my first son, and he has a baby. He left a baby behind.”
About 100 people attended the service, including Homicide squad Staff Insp. Mark Saunders.
Police are still hoping some help from the public can come in and the case can be solved.
Through surveillance video viewed shortly after the shooting, police were able to learn the shooter was driving a black BMW X5 sport utility vehicle. It’s a 2000-2006 model with silver running boards, five-spoke rims, a roof rack and a sun-roof.
It was spotted at the scene before the shootings, and fled north on Weston immediately after. Police said there were at least two people, including the shooter, in the SUV.
Thursday evening’s memorial took place at 1798 Weston Rd., the scene of the killings.
Facey and James were the 43rd and 44th homicides of 2010.
Police renewed their call for anyone who can identify this vehicle to please come forward.
