A man who police dubbed the Ray-Ban bandit has been arrested and charged for a string of Toronto bank robberies.
Ryan Brereton, 34, of Toronto, has been charged with 18 counts of robbery and wearing a disguise with intent. He is expected to appear in Toronto court on Tuesday.
Toronto police’s hold-up squad and officers from 51 Division arrested the man in connection to the robberies on Monday.
Last week, the Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) offered a $10,000 reward in an effort to catch the alleged serial bank robber.
Toronto police alleged Brereton robbed 16 banks in the city since 2009 — the most-recent one occurred in late August.
Police called him the Ray-Ban bandit because he usually showed up wearing sunglasses.
In each robbery, a man approached a teller, said he was armed with a handgun and demanded cash.
Police and the CBA have never disclosed how much money was stolen overall.
