SIU investigating Brampton arrest

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in after a man was injured while being arrested.
Peel police arrested the 44-year-old outside a Brampton Cash Mart on Friday. He was later treated in hospital for a fractured sternum.
The SIU says the officers saw the man running from the building on Queen Street East near Rutherford Road and pursued him.
There was an “interaction,” the SIU said, and the man was taken to hospital.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
